There was no senior MK Kings team in these two seasons as financial troubles forced Bladerunner Arena to close. This was a devastating blow for MK Kings fans and heartbreaking for the Junior Club which was one of the biggest in the country. Under the leadership of the late Tag Taylor, chairman of the Junior Kings, the parents worked very hard to keep the junior programme going, borrowing ice time at Stevenage for training and playing home fixtures at other rinks. The MK Kings Supporters Club also kept going, maintaining a very visible presence, lobbying the council and arranging travel to hockey games.
The rink re-opened in April 1998 as the first of the Planet Ice Arenas and Mike Darnell was awarded the franchise run a team in the English League Premier Division for the 98/99 season.
